OpenChatCut Community Resources: From Live Preview to Install
See how OpenChatCut turns motion graphics, sounds, transitions, effects, zooms, and LUTs into previewable, validated, installable community resources.

An editing resource becomes useful when you can see the complete result, verify that it is compatible, and place it inside a project that remains editable. A polished cover by itself is not enough.
The OpenChatCut community library is designed around that path: discover, preview, install, use, and share. The website presents and distributes published resources, while the Extension Center in the editor handles discovery, installation, and local management. Both surfaces use the same resource specification.
Six categories with real previews
The catalog currently covers six categories that map directly to the OpenChatCut editor:
| Category | Preview | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Motion graphics | Hover to play the complete title or graphic animation | Install into the resource library |
| Sound effects | Audition the original audio with a waveform | Download the audio file |
| Transitions | Watch the complete change from a start image to an end image | Install as a transition extension |
| Visual effects | Play the processing pass on a submitted source image | Install as a visual effect |
| Zooms | Watch the full push, rebound, or focal movement | Install as a zoom preset |
| LUTs | Compare the grade on a consistent source image | Install as a color extension |
Visual cards do not substitute a poster for the effect. Hover starts the preview video, and leaving the card returns it to the cover. Audio resources keep a dedicated play control and waveform so the content can be heard before download.
From the website to the Extension Center
Every installable resource exposes a stable install URL. The workflow is short:
- Find a resource in the community library.
- Hover or play it to verify the result.
- Copy its install URL.
- Paste the URL into “Library → Extension Center → Install” in OpenChatCut.
The editor fetches the package and validates its format, fields, item type, and runtime behavior. Once installed, it appears under “Installed,” where it can be enabled, disabled, or removed without rewriting the media in the current project.
The Extension Center also reads the published website catalog for its Discover tab, so users can browse inside the editor and open the original website page for the full presentation.
One format for presentation and runtime
Motion graphics, transitions, effects, zooms, and LUTs use openchatcut-plugin@1, the same format the editor installs, compiles, and renders.
That constraint avoids two common failures:
- A marketplace demo looks good, but the downloaded file does not run in the editor.
- A creator maintains one file for the product and another for the showcase.
Resources are checked against the current project specification before publication. The website preview, downloadable package, and editor installation all refer to the same resource, reducing drift between “what was shown” and “what actually works.”
How a submission reaches the public catalog
A creator signs in, selects a category, and submits:
- a name, version, creator, and clear description;
- the resource file required by that category;
- a source image for preview generation, plus an end image for transitions;
- tags, a license, an optional source URL, and a rights confirmation.
The system checks file size, accepted format, required fields, and item type, then records a digest and stores the upload in shared storage. The submission enters review, where an administrator can inspect the validation report, preview, and original file, request changes, unpublish it, or publish it.
After publication, users see a system-generated preview, clear authorship and licensing, and the original resource available for download or installation.
A library should shorten the creative path
A resource library should not become another gallery of links to bookmark. It should let an editor decide and act in one continuous flow:
See the result → Confirm the style → Install → Add to timeline → Keep editing
That is the goal of OpenChatCut community resources: keep every asset visible, verifiable, editable, and ready for the next timeline.
